BACKGROUND
After graduating with his bachelor's degree, Rick Hoting sat
for the May 1987 Uniform CPA Examination and received the Elijah
Watt Sells Award for receiving one of the top 100 scores in the
nation out of 65,000 candidates. In August 1987 he joined
the accounting firm of Windes & McClaughry in Long Beach,
California, where he currently is serving as the Director of Tax
Research. He also joined the Law Offices of Patrick C. Stacker
in 2001 as a part-time Associate.
While he was working for Windes & McClaughry, Rick Hoting continued
his education in the evenings, earning two master's degrees and
a law degree. At Loyola Law School he was the highest ranked
student in the evening division and was presented with the Lloyd
Tevis Award for being the top student in the entire graduating
class concentrating in the commercial law curriculum.
PRESENT ACTIVITIES
At Windes & McClaughry, Rick has spent his time exclusively
in the Tax Department, where he supervises the annual income tax
preparation for a wide range of individual clients, real estate
partnerships, and related trusts and individuals. He also
prepares estate tax returns and trust administration matters and
consults with other professionals in the firm regarding large
corporate multi-state returns and international tax issues.
As the Director of Tax Research, he also researches matters in
all areas of the tax law, reviews the research performed by others,
and analyzes the tax effects of proposed transactions. Rick
is also on the Editorial Board for Solutions, a quarterly
newsletter published by the firm.
He became an Associate at the Law Offices of Patrick C. Stacker
in 2001 wherein he performed trust, estate and property tax and
disability appeals and related matters. Rick has assisted
several clients with trusts, wills, and estate planning matters,
and with organizing new corporations and limited liability companies.
CIVIC AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Rick is currently active at Bethany Lutheran Church in Long Beach
where he is the treasurer and oversees the finances for the church,
a day school with over 430 students, and pre-school and extended
day care programs. He is also on the board of directors
for Living Way Bible Study, Inc. Rick is a member of the
Orange County and American Bar Associations, the AICPA, the California
Society of CPA's, and the Attorney-CPA Society.
